The UCLA Center for Prehospital Care at the David Geffen School of Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking an EMS Program Faculty to join our EMS Education team. EMS Program faculty work under the Paramedic Program Director and collaborate closely with Medical Directors and the management team within the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care.
As a critical member of our EMS Program Faculty, you will work as a part of a high functioning team to support the premier EMS education program in the nation. The successful candidate will support all aspects of the program, including but not limited to coordinating, developing, and providing lectures in the Paramedic primary, hybrid, preparatory, refresher, and continuing education programs, collaborating on the development and delivery of psychomotor skills and simulation programs, supporting the clinical/field internship portion of the program, innovating and researching new learning methods to promote student success.
EMS Program Faculty will be a student advocate in the learning process, create an active learning environment, and maintain a high level of industry competence. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative environment, where three principles guide the culture: Do Things Right, Make Things Better, and Be Kind.
Salary:$33.96 - 69.54 hourly
QualificationsRequired:
Current licensure as a Paramedic, Physician Assistant, or Registered Nurse (or higher) in the State of California, or ability to obtain licensure
Ability to obtain County of Los Angeles accreditation
AHS Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Current ACLS, AMLS, PALS, and PHTLS (Provider) certifications (Instructor‑level certifications preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field such as nursing, health care administration, health care education, emergency medical services, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred)
Minimum of five (5) years of EMS clinical experience on an ambulance, fire department, or in a hospital emergency department
Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in emergency medical services or an equivalent health care environment
Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times in excess of 125 pounds. Hand-Eye and motor coordination is necessary. The work can involve light lifting (from 10 to 20 pounds maximum) to very heavy lifting (50 pounds occasionally, no maximum) and can involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing (including the ability to perceive differences in colors, shades, or harmonious combinations or to match colors is required).
Must be able to work day, evenings and/or weekends as programs are scheduled and required to meet student learning needs.
Must have reliable source of transportation to travel to off-campus locations for courses and special projects.
Skill in working and collaborating effectively as part of a team.
Interpersonal skills to excel in relations with supervisors, staff, students, and the public.
Proven experience demonstrating organizational, multi-tasking, and "follow through" skills.
Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with attention to detail and minimal direction.
Excellent communication and instructional presentation skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into understandable parts.
Detailed knowledge of all pertinent provider level skills and the ability to provide instruction of same including being able to perform and effectively teach required skills.
Detailed knowledge of Primary, Recertification, and Preparatory training programs.
Detailed knowledge of EMT and Paramedic and related program course policies, objectives, and requirements (preferred).
Detailed knowledge and skill in prehospital care procedures and techniques.
Demonstrated experience with distant education programs and supportive technology (ie. Adobe Connect, LMS, etc.) as an instructor and/or student (preferred).
Detailed knowledge and formal training in education theory and the use of simulation to meet learning objectives.
Previous experience coordinating, delivering, and evaluating education courses.
