Description
Under the direction of the Clinical Director of the Patient Flow Command Center and Patient Flow leadership, the Per Diem RN is responsible for coordinating and supporting timely patient throughput for elective and urgent admissions, interfacility transfers, and direct admissions across all three UCLA Health campuses. Responsibilities include clinical review, coordination, and processing of transfer requests from outside hospitals, as well as collaboration with referring and accepting physicians, executive leadership, Nursing Supervisors, Patient Experience, and hospital support services to facilitate safe and efficient patient placement.
The Per Diem RN will develop expertise in the UCLA CareConnect EPIC EHR bed management system and work collaboratively with nursing leadership, management, and multidisciplinary teams to support a systematic approach to patient flow and bed management that promotes operational efficiency and a positive patient experience.
The incumbent must demonstrate strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, communication, professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to organizational goals related to patient throughput, patient safety, access to care, and quality outcomes.

Salary: $96.74 - $96.74 Hourly
Qualifications
Current California Registered Nurse license - required.
BSN or MSN - required
Minimum of five (5) years of current inpatient clinical experience - required.
BLS - Required
Critical Care/ICU experience strongly preferred.
Previous administrative, patient flow, transfer center, bed management, or leadership experience preferred.
Prior Patient Placement experience preferred.
Case Management experience is desirable.
Demonstrated expertise in managing high census and capacity constraints, with the ability to problem solve, prioritize, and exercise sound clinical judgment in complex operational situations.
Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills in a fast-paced, high-acuity healthcare environment.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all members of a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nursing leadership, executive leadership, and ancillary departments.
Strong clinical assessment skills with the ability to triage and prioritize patient placement needs based on clinical specialty, level of care, patient safety considerations, and bed capacity limitations.
Proficient technology and communication skills, including:
Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, preferably EPIC/CareConnect
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Multi-line phone and communication systems
Ability to adapt to frequent operational changes and function effectively in a dynamic patient flow environment.
