Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary:
CVT surgery PA provides first assist for open heart, thoracic and vascular surgeries, and second assist performing endovascular vein harvest for CABG and vascular cases. The CVT Surgery PA provides daily rounds, post operative care to include ICU and telemetry stepdown unit patient care. The PA is responsible for pre/post op orders and patient discharges. The PA is an considered an extender to the surgeon and must have good communication skills to speak with other physicians for necessary consults.
Essential duties include but not limited to:
- Take an appropriate history, make an assessment and perform an appropriate physical examination for those patients initially admitted to the hospital or seen in consultation by the Supervising Physician(s). Record pertinent data in a manner meaningful to the Supervising Physician(s) and other healthcare providers. All entries must be must be countersigned by
the Supervising Physician(s) within 24 hours after entry. NOTE: The PA may NOT consult on patients. - Record summaries, progress notes, directions, orders and other information in medical record. All entries must be countersigned (i.e., time and date) by the Supervising Physician(s) as required by medical staff policy.
- Write admission orders, transfer orders from one level of care to another level of care, and discharge orders after direct communication with the Supervising Physician(s).
- Order, and/or assist the Supervising Physician(s) in performing screening and/or diagnostic tests/procedures delegated by the Supervising Physician(s), provided that the procedures are consistent with the Supervising Physician(s)' practice and with patients' conditions. These may include, but not limited to: PFT's, TEE's, Ultrasound exams, therapeutic diets, laboratory exams, radiology exams, PT/OT/Speech Therapy consults, Cardiac Rehab, Home Care, DME, Social
Services, Respiratory Therapy and Educational Programs.
Job RequirementsMinimum:
- Prefer minimum 5 years' experience as a CVT Surgery PA, but would consider the right candidate who is an experienced PA in a current patient care practice with minimum 3 years' experience. *If staffing
permits we will consider new grads or candidates with less experience. - Satisfactory completion of a formal Physician's Assistant Training Program at an accredited institution.
- State of California Certification as a Physician's Assistant.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification.
- DEA License required.
Preferred:
- Knowlege and understanding of customers and beliefs and needs of a consumer group(s) served.
