The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for all aspects of purchasing for PIH Health Whittier Hospital, designated clinics, and Barlow which includes maintaining an adequate inventory, timely order placement, cost containment and ordering on the proper account. They shall be responsible for receiving the product, proper storage, adjusting discrepancies, handling necessary accounting functions, and computer pricing related interactions. They shall identify medication shortages, provide communication to the Pharmacy Team regarding medication shortages, procurement of acceptable alternative, and recalls. They shall maintain records of purchasing to meet compliance with accreditation organization, as well as federal and state regulations (including HRSA). They shall be responsible for effectively training designated fill-in staff in order to maintain proper purchasing and compliance with the 340B Program. They shall assist in the Flu Vaccine distribution, KBMA processes, Carousel processes, and assist with the Disaster Cache (including inventory management and expiration date adherence). They shall conduct Quality Improvement projects, Performance Improvement projects and other initiatives as assigned by Pharmacy Management.
They shall be perform buying functions for the Co-Located Hospital (i.e. Barlow Respiratory) to include but not limited to: purchasing, drug shortages, medication contract compliance, recalls, and inventory (i.e. maintaining PAR levels, Annual/Bi-Annual, etc.) of medications specific to the Co-Located Hospital
Possess the ability to effectively communicate through verbal/written communications to the medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff.
Must be able to handle multiple priorities (such as purchasing, data entry, etc.) in an effective manner identifying and understanding issues, problems, and potential for workflow improvement.
Possess the ability to manage time to meet project deadlines, follow detailed direction, basic computer skills, and ability to prioritize is required.
Possess an understanding of 340B purchasing and regulatory compliance
Required:
Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program recognized by the California State Board of Pharmacy
Possess a California Pharmacy Technician Licensure in good standing
National certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, and have a minimum of 3 years of hospital experience with a minimum of 1 year of purchasing experience
Knowledge of 340B purchasing a compliance
Preferred:
College degree
