FAMILY PRACTICE PHYSICIAN/MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Part Time or Full-Time
Povides professional medical services in the Big Sur Health Center,
a small Rural Health Clinic.
A National Health Service Corp site.
Environment:
Small, non-profit community health center in a beautiful, rural setting on the Big Sur coast.
Patient population: culturally and socioeconomically diverse
Work environment: office hours 9:30-5:30, 12-15 patients/day, 2 part-time nurse practitioners plus 5 support staff.

Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:
Obtains patient history, to include past medical, family and social histories, as well as history of present illness or concern.
Performs physical examinations and determines appropriate clinical laboratory tests and/or diagnostic imaging, clinical laboratory tests, or referrals to specialty care, if indicated.
Interprets examination findings, diagnostic and test results, and implements appropriate treatment plans.
Dispenses medications from in-house formulary, when appropriate; otherwise, electronically transmit prescriptions to pharmacies.
Reviews case histories from outside providers and specialists and enters information in EMR.
Provides continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and medical care to the entire family unit, to include preventive medicine and community health.
Performs minor surgery, e.g. laceration repair, skin biopsy, lesion removals.
Determines need for consultation with specialists and assists in medical care treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
Completes documentation of patient information in the electronic medical record with sufficient completeness to assure continuity of care where more than one provider may be involved in the patient’s care.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of the principles and practice of family medicine, to include preventive care.
Knowledge of the state and federal laws pertaining to medicine.
Skill in communicating effectively with patients and their families.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients and the general public.
Ability to type and work within EMR – eClinicalWorks.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Medical Association
with a Doctor of Medicine degree or accredited by the American Osteopathic Association
with a Doctor or Osteopathy degree. If medical education occurred at a foreign medical
school, the applicant must possess a current Educational Council Foreign Medical
Graduate (ECFMG) Certificate. Successful completion of an approved program of
residency training in family practice.
Licenses or Certification Requirements:
License to practice medicine in the State of California plus current DEA registration.
