WestPac Labs, Inc, a Sonic Healthcare USA clinical laboratory in Santa Fe Springs, CA. currently has an open position for a cytotechnologist. WestPac Labs is a network of three clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories in California with an unwavering commitment to our clients and the patients. With laboratories located on the Central Coast in San Luis Obispo, CA , Bakersfield, CA and in the Los Angeles area in Santa Fe Springs, CA, we believe in a business culture based on medical leadership throughout our entire company which leads to the delivery of outstanding laboratory services. WestPac Labs is fully licensed by the state of California and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CLIA). Our gyn cytology department is situated in our core laboratory located in Eastern Los Angeles county, in the community of Santa Fe Springs, Ca.
The candidate will be either a recent graduate or experienced, ASCP-certified cytotechnologist that has graduated from an accredited cytotechnology school. Must possess a Cytotechnologist California State License or are willing to obtain or are in the process of obtaining a Cytotechnologist California State License. We will support an interned process to obtain a Cytotechnologist California State License, if desired. Ideally, must be experienced enough to function independently in a fast-paced
and busy outpatient clinical laboratory. Must be able to screen imaged GYN cases (ThinPrep/Surepath) as well as some NON-GYN specimens. Relocation package available.
General Description:
As a Cytotechnologist at WestPac Labs, you will be responsible for analyzing gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens for microscopic cellular abnormalities, pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions, and or related abnormal conditions.
We are looking for candidates who currently possess a Cytotechnologist California State License or are willing to obtain or are in the process of obtaining a Cytotechnologist California State License.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all Federal, State, HIPAA, CLIA, CAP, and company policies and regulations within the Cytology Department.
- As dictated by the FDA 2010 Guidelines, CMS, State of California, and/or other regulatory agencies, may screen up to, but not exceed, 80 slides within a 24-hour period.
- Screen Gynecologic Specimens, SurePath & Conventionals manually and ThinPreps using the Image Guided System to identify the presence/or absence of pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions.
- Screen Non-Gyn and FNA specimens, including Urine, Anal Paps, Thyroids, etc. and provide preliminary diagnosis to the Pathologist.
- Prepares a final diagnosis using established terminology, enters diagnosis in the Laboratory Information System, and reports and electronically signs out negative gynecologic specimens.
- Renders a preliminary microscopic assessment on reactive and abnormal gynecologic specimens, non-gynecologic specimens and fine-needle aspirations pending final interpretation by a pathologist.
- Checks that patient information on the requisition such as name, DOB, source, LMP, patient clinical history is inputted correctly in the LIS system before final report is issued.
- Perform daily stain assessment (QA) and stain documentation.
- Maintain accurate workload documentation, including total number of slides examined and screening hours performed in the laboratory as well number of slides reviewed, and screening hours examined for any other employer within a 24-hour period.
- Meet slide screening requirements as per standard operating procedure.
- Participate in yearly Proficiency Testing and College of American Pathologists (CAP) Education Program.
- Participate in and support all Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement endeavors for the laboratory.
- Comply with all safety, infection control and HIPPA policies.
- Maintain and provide evidence of all required qualifications including ASCP certification, Cytotechnologist California State Licensure, and liquid-based cytology certifications, if applicable.
- In addition to the typical work schedule, you may be scheduled to work weekends, work split shifts, overtime, holidays, and attend mandatory company meetings, as necessary.
- Is responsible for rush/stat cases as assigned.
- Assist with cytology preparation/processing of cytology specimens, as needed.
- Required to perform other job duties, as deemed necessary.
Required Education and Experience:
- Must have a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from a four-year college or university.
- Must have graduated from an Accrediting Bureau of Health Education School accredited school of cytotechnology or other organization approved by Health and Human Services.
- Have both SurePath Liquid-Based Pap Test and ThinPrep Pap Test Training Certification.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Have a valid Cytotechnology California State License.
- ASCP certification or other applicable certification.
- ThinPrep Imaging System: Review Scope Training Program Certification.
- Current Passing Proficiency Test Results.
Professional Requirements:
- Completes all appropriate laboratory training/educational programs.
- Maintains Cytotechnologist California State Licensure.
Physical Requirements:
- Extensive microscope and computer work.
- Light physical effort (lift and carrying objects up to 25 pounds).
- Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
- Mental and physical dexterity with extensive use of hands and eyes.
- Frequent, prolonged standing/sitting/walking.
- Must be able to see, hear, and respond adequately,
- Occasional use of telephone and fax.
