JOB SUMMARY: The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is a clinical pharmacist who oversees the day to day operations of clinical pharmacy services and the 340B retail pharmacy. Oversees pharmacy department dispensing, clinical pharmacy services, record-keeping, and compliance. Creates, develops and maintains evidence-based programs that enhance patient care and improve patient safety and outcomes. Manages relationships for the acquisition of all inventories of pharmaceuticals and related supplies. Is responsible for the compliance and management of the 340B program. Provides ambulatory pharmaceutical care services using approved protocols in collaboration with other health professionals. Works in compliance with all internal and external regulations and procedures. Contributes to efforts to evaluate, implement and audit programs related to specific medical initiatives and grant program requirements. Maintains relationships with various Schools of pharmacy as a preceptor for pharmacy students. The Clinic Pharmacy Manager works in the team-based model of care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MANAGERIAL DUTIES
- Assure that the quality of the service to customers meets or exceeds company standards
- Monitor the operations and the activities of the pharmacy team to include hiring, training, evaluations and corrective actions.
- Responsible for establishing and evaluation of pharmacy programs and initiatives.
- Manages the programs for pharmacy experiential learning, including but not limited to pharmacy residency and APPE rotations.
- Manages pharmacy staff including volunteers, technicians, clinical pharmacists, and pharmacy interns.
- Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, time and attendance and mentorship of pharmacy team members.
- Ensures Pharmacy compliance to all regulatory bodies, including but not limited to the 340B program, California Board of Pharmacy, and HRSA.
- Through observation and participation, recommend improvements to operations, services, and products to better meet customer needs and quality of care.
- Manages relationship with pharmacy suppliers and oversees all third party contracts and external partnerships.
CLINICAL PHARMACIST DUTIES
- Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the health care team to make decisions about treatment and attain health goals.
- Reviews, process, and monitor medication orders for appropriateness, accuracy, and safety.
- Complies with all regulatory requirements, including but not limited to the California Board of Pharmacy, HRSA, and 340B program.
- Assess subjective and objective findings relating to patient’s responses to drug therapy to communicate and document findings and recommendations in the electronic health record.
- Design a pharmaceutical care plan that promotes safe and effective medication use, as appropriate.
- Provide consultative services to all professional staff regarding drug information and therapy.
- Works within the pharmacy daily, manages administrative tasks and necessary clinical pharmacy services.
- Assists Clinical Pharmacy Manager in oversight of pharmacy staff/volunteers, initiatives, and programs.
- Ensures all pharmacy services meet documentation and compliance requirements: ensures all grant-funded pharmacy services meet grant requirements and commitments.
- Precepts pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy resident as appropriate.
- Travels to organization’s clinic sites to participate in ”on-site” medication management.
- Reports all safety or other concerns to Director and others as directed.
- Participates and contributes to department meetings, initiatives, and programs.
- May speak at events; may publish or coauthor papers and/or poster.
- Maintains superior expertise in pharmaceutical sciences and developments and completes continuing education requirements timely
- Has personal transportation and driving insurance; drives to other sites for work purposes as needed; may travel out of town for meetings.
- Completes other duties as requested or assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
· A current, valid, unrestricted California State Pharmacist License required
· ASHP-accredited residency in Ambulatory Care preferred
· Advanced Practice Pharmacy license or Specialty Board Certification (e.g. BCACP) required.
· 3 - 5 years of pharmacy experience in a community health clinic or other ambulatory care setting
· 1 - 2 years of pharmacy management
· Experience and savvy with Electronic Health Records Systems. EPIC user experience preferred.
· Current CPR/BLS certification
· Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with clinic and transformation support staff that promotes cooperation.
· Experience working with the FQHC populations helpful and knowledge of health disparities preferred.
· Ability to establish work priorities to meet established deadlines.
· Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred, specifically medical Spanish
COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS
- Uses Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet software proficiently
- Uses PowerPoint proficiently
- Uses EMR, Practice Management and Cerner Etreby for pharmacy management
- Strong knowledge of computer operations, proficiently uses a keyboard and calculator
