Position Summary
Provides and manages direct patient care, ranging from infants through the geriatric population, in WellSpace Health Medical Centers. Assures the adequacy and appropriateness of medical care provided to patients.
Note: All medical staff will be privileged and credentialed according to the rules and regulations of WellSpace Health. The medical staff of each department or service is responsible for peer review activities to promote continuous improvement of the quality of patient care provided by the medical staff in all departments of the WellSpace Health organization.
Required Qualifications
- Currently licensed to practice medicine in the State of California.
- Current Board Certification in Family Practice or Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM) only, or may be Board eligible or equivalent.
- Must have current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number.
- Current First Aid, CPR, BCLS, ACLS and/or PALS Certification.
- Commitment to a community health philosophy.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work with individuals from a wide variety of cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds with sensitivity to managing their health problems.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
- Computer literate including use of email, word and excel.
- Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
- Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
- Must have valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide and manage direct patient care in the WSH Health Center(s) in accordance with our team-based Patient Center Health Home (PCHH) model of
- Perform histories and physicals, including addressing psycho-social issues, school admission, athletic programs, employment, etc. Analyze patient data and formulate diagnoses in order to treat a variety of disease processes and injuries, both acute and chronic. Develop and implement patient treatment plans; evaluate these treatments plans and revise as necessary. Consult and refer patients to other healthcare professionals, facilities as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to patient
- Order appropriate diagnostic tests and treatments. Prescribe medications, regulated medical devices and treatment modalities as appropriate to the patient’s assessed medical
- Provide education to patients and families regarding preventive health care, disease processes, potential medication side effects, nutrition,
- Competently perform rapid patient assessment, emergency intervention and stabilization. All patients are evaluated and managed in an efficient and timely
- May perform minor procedures, such as cryotherapy, I & D,
- May inoculate and vaccinate patients to immunize patients from communicable
- Report communicable disease to the appropriate local, state and federal health
- Complete patient charting, billing, coding and documentation in EHR in accordance with WellSpace Health policies and
- Maintain pace with assigned appointment schedule and help ensure timely patient access to care
- Complete EHR PAQ and Inbox items in accordance with WellSpace Health policies and
- Ensure quality metrics are in progress and documented appropriately in EHR in accordance with WSH Quality initiatives.
- Clinically supervise Advanced Practice Providers in accordance with WSH policies and
- Maintain productivity at appropriate level in accordance with WSH access and budgetary guidelines
- Serve as a member of the organized medical staff, attend medical staff meetings and committee meetings as requested; adhere to the medical staff policies, rules and
- Participate in the development and implementation of educational programs for the WSH Health Center staff and the community. Participate in the department’s performance improvement
- Understand and remain in compliance with the WSH Health Center’s policies and procedures for safety, infection prevention and control, hazardous materials and waste,
- Be available for consultation for WSH Health Center
- Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care
- Support and maintain a culture of safety, quality and respect for patients, their families and
- May participate in various research studies, supervision of students and residents in area of
- Communicate appropriately and clearly with all members of your Care Team including Health Center Manager, Regional Director, Medical Assistants and other
- Treat coworkers, patients and their families with respect and dignity. Deliver culturally competent customer service and patient
- Maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Resolves staff concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as
- Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful
- Stay current with new developments in medicine through continuing education, conferences and affiliations with professional
- Participate in Peer Review process in accordance with WSH Peer Review
- Communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the facility. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times whether on or off
- Ensure confidentiality of patients’ records following HIPAA guidelines. Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business
- Maintain regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization
- Meet dress code standards; appearance is neat, clean and professional. Must wear identification while on duty.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
